Ryan O'Neal shares 5 Awesome Things!
The Sleeping at Last frontman offers up a few things he loves.
I’m starting something new here on the first Sunday of each month called ‘5 Awesome Things’, where I ask friends and otherwise cool people to share 5 unique and/or cherished possessions with the Shoebox Universe or “Shoeniverse” as I am now officially dubbing us (does that also make us ‘Shoenies?')
This month, I’ve asked my ultra creative, prolific & KIND friend Ryan O’Neal of Sleeping at Last to open up his Shoebox and share what’s inside. Over the years, Ryan’s music has been featured in movies like The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn-Pt 1, shows like Grey’s Anatomy & The Vampire Diaries, and major commercial ad campaigns (can you say Budweiser’s 2015 Super Bowl ad, anyone!?) But more than that, I just appreciate Ryan’s sensitivity and thoughtfulness. Oh, and his complete obsession for all things Disney.
So yo, Ryan- what are your 5 Awesome things!?
“The first one is my Vestaboard: This device brings me joy daily. The sound, the look, I love everything about it. I use it for announcements, quotes I love, thinking through lyrics I write and sometimes as a countdown to trips to Disney World.”
“The second one is my LUNA lamp by Acorn Studio: This moon lamp hangs above my piano in my studio and I adore it. It makes me so happy to make music under perpetual moonlight!”
“My daughters' artwork that overflows my piano's music rack: My daughters, Lily and Iris frequently gift me with their wonderful art and I love how it is continually shifting and spilling over my piano. It's the sweetest and most perfect kind of untidiness.”
“The next one is this Smith-Corona Typewriter: I have a small collection of typewriters and I just love how they feel. I'd like to be cool enough to say that I only write my lyrics on typewriter, but nope. I do love them a lot and they make me happy on the regular.”
“The last one is this Peter Pan art by Joey Chou: My mom and I shared a love of all things Disney. She loved Disney art and was a collector. One of her very favorite artists, Joey Chou was kind enough to make her a custom piece of art that I was able to gift to her right before she passed away. Joey's kindness will forever mean the world to me. His Peter Pan painting was one of my mom's and my favorites. I inherited the art and it now hangs on my wall and is a deeply meaningful tribute to my mom and our shared love of Disney magic.”
